  The frequent occurrence of food safety incidents has aroused people's concerns about the use of food additives. To answer whether food additives are harmful to the human body, we must first understand the concept and use requirements of food additives.

  Food additives are synthetic or natural substances added to food to improve food quality, color, aroma, and taste, as well as the needs of anti-corrosion, preservation and processing technology. Spices for food, base substances in gum-based candies, and processing aids for the food industry are also included. According to the "National Food Safety Standard Food Additive Use Standard" (GB 2760-2014), there are 2336 kinds of food additives allowed in my country.

The basic requirements for the use of food additives in my country are:

  1. It should not cause any health hazards to the human body;

  2. The spoilage and deterioration of food should not be concealed;

  3. The food itself or quality defects in the processing process should not be concealed, or food additives should be used for the purpose of adulteration, adulteration, or forgery;

  4. The nutritional value of the food itself should not be reduced;

  5. On the premise of achieving the expected effect, reduce the amount of use in food as much as possible.

  Therefore, the correct and reasonable use of food additives will not cause any harm to human health. It is only used to improve the tissue state of the food, enhance the taste of the food, and extend the shelf life of the food.
